Lasting Divergence

That the next generation might know. Psalm 78:6

Teen/Parent Conference in Boone, NC on August 14-15

Dear Pastor,

I know you’re busy. If you’re anything like me, you’re considering moving on to smething else before you finish reading this. Please resist that temptation for just a moment, and read on!

Is your budget tight this year? Are you looking at fall retreat options for the teenagers in your church, but finding they fail to address the spiritual needs your teens have? Do you have parents who need some direction and encouragement? Could your families benefit from a shared spiritual experience at the beginning of a new school year?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions - we’re in the same boat. But there's good news! We believe we’ve identified a great option for teens and their parents, and we’d like to share it with you. On August 14-15, 2009, Alliance Bible Fellowship will be hosting a Teen/Parent Conference in Boone, NC. I believe this conference offers several benefits: by including parents in the event, we provide an opportunity for the entire family to experience renewal; and, by holding the conference at the beginning of the school year, we believe that spiritual and practical adjustments can be made before typical habits set in, helping set our teens up for a more positive and meaningful school year.

Our conference speaker will be Jeremy Kingsley. A graduate of Columbia International University, Jeremy travels the country as a teacher and evangelist, speaking regularly at Student Life Events, music festivals, and churches. His latest book, Be Last: Descending to Greatness, challenges Christ-followers to reject the “me first” mentality and live a life of service and humility. It’s a foreign message in today’s culture - but one that can change an individual life, or an entire family.

Jeremy comes highly recommended by Christian leaders such as Wes Stafford, Gary Chapman, and Third Day’s Mac Powell. I have heard him speak personally on several occasions, and know him to be a gifted and engaging communicator, who is faithful to God’s Word. (You can check out his ministry or download some of his messages at http://www.jeremykingsley.com/endorsements.html.)

I believe God is calling us to pursue His heart in Malachi 4:6. This conference will help move us in that direction.

The cost of the weekend conference (Friday evening and Saturday morning) is just $15 per person, with a maximum per family cost of $60. (This maximum per family cost is less than the typical cost for one teen to go on a weekend retreat!) Hotel recommendations can be made for your group. In addition to a speaker your teens will connect with, each session will include a time of meaningful worship and video excerpts from various Christian leaders that will help us focus on the meaning of this powerful concept. Will you join us on the journey to Be Last?

~Grace and Peace~
